Coffee Spills

What I hear and see and think about at the coffee shops I patronize.
Brisk. Fresh. Well-balanced. Occasional nutty and bittersweet overtones.

Finding coffee when a house guest

Without a car, I couldn't do my usual visit to a coffee shop in the morning while we were in Huntington Beach, CA for a week for my sister-in-law's wedding. However, we were staying with my husband's brother and wife, and they were kind enough to see to it that I was able to stop at a Starbuck's and bring something back to the house. Bless them.

He climbs Mt. Everest

We chatted for a bit this morning at the coffee shop. He was very polite and asked me many questions about our Finland and Russia trip. I don't know his name, but we frequently talk if there are no guys around for him to sit with.

After he went outside, another regular mentioned to me that he has climbed Mt. Everest many times.

Coffee shop is a bit quiet

The guys here have had a bit of a tiff. Sort of unusual for men. They usually can dish it out and take it. Don't know what happened over the summer but politics has broken up the old gang. There was a Catholic Democrat, a Catholic Republican, and liberal Prostestant Democrat and a few whatever wafflers. Anyway, it's pretty quiet these days. Nothing to listen in to.

We're back in Columbus

We packed up and left Lakeside yesterday morning, so I had my final cup of coffee at Coffee 'n Cream. We'll look forward to seeing them again next summer. This morning at Panera's I chatted with Dr. Lin whom I knew from the veterinary college. I always enjoyed working with him and his wife Dr. Rikihisa because they were involved in such interesting research. For me, that’s what made being a librarian so fascinating--a window into worlds I could only imagine. They had also been in St. Petersburg this summer a few weeks after we were there. So we compared notes on our trips.
