Coffee Spills

What I hear and see and think about at the coffee shops I patronize.
Brisk. Fresh. Well-balanced. Occasional nutty and bittersweet overtones.
If you got here from my profile, you probably need to visit my main blog, Collecting My Thoughts which is updated every day.

Braille instructions

At my other blog, the site meter has tagged several hits recently at my blog entry on braille instructions in the ladies room changing table at Caribou Coffee. I reread it, and thought it was worth reposting here at Coffee Spills.

Conover Coffees & Chocolates

Today I tried a new coffee shop here in Oregon, Illinois--same type as the Chocolate Cafe near Port Clinton, Ohio. Conover has a number of small shops (site of an old piano factory on the Rock River) and Kim Boyden of Byron opened her coffee shop about 5 months ago. We stopped in this morning.

When you see a stranger

While on a walk the other day I noticed a man getting into a car who looked familiar. He stopped to chat--seemed to know me, but I couldn't place him. "So you live here?" he said. Finally, it dawned on me, he's someone I see and talk to regularly at the coffee shop, but out of context I didn't recognize him. He'd dropped off my neighbor whom he'd taken to a doctor's appointment.

Google's new blog finder

Google has a new feature whereby you can find blogs by the bloggers name, or topic. I tried it with my name and then my name + a topic and found it very easy to use. However, it also makes it easier for the blog spammers to be target specific. These are the "Hi, great blog. Come and visit mine on [your topic]. So I'll have to add the stronger filters to the comments. My topical blogs are all getting hit.
