Coffee Spills

What I hear and see and think about at the coffee shops I patronize.
Brisk. Fresh. Well-balanced. Occasional nutty and bittersweet overtones.
If you got here from my profile, you probably need to visit my main blog, Collecting My Thoughts which is updated every day.

Warblers

"We missed you at church on Sunday," I said as she passed my table. She paused a moment thinking and replied, "We were at Magee Marsh watching the warblers." I think she said they saw 25 different warblers.
"There are about 37 species of warblers that usually make an appearance here. Due to their reluctance to cross Lake Erie, the birds pile in on the forested beach ridges in large numbers and provide spectacular bird watching opportunities."

Four weeks until school's out

Today at the coffee shop I asked a school teacher how long until school lets out and he said "142.5 hours."

Lakeside sunrise

On my way to Coffee and Cream in Lakeside this morning I walked along the lakefront. It was breezy and fallish, so my sweater felt good. But what a fabulous sunrise! Some people must have been warned, because I saw a lot of people on the dock at 6:45 a.m., some with cameras. I didn't have mine with me.

I heard a familiar early fall sound--Canada geese. The leader wasn't heading south, unless we are south to them, to northeast. Honk. Hope. Honk. Change. Follow me. Honk. Honk. Ha. Ha. No kidding. That's what I heard.

High accident rate at 5 points

Today's paper said the UA police chief didn't see a need for the speed cameras at our intersections. The number of accidents in UA for 2006-2007 rose from 554-574, or 3.6%. The highest accident rate is at 5 points--right where I have my coffee! However, a lot of these must be fender benders, because I rarely see an accident, and if I get rerouted, it's usually near Rt. 33.
